TU/NEPI Partnership

Brad Carson

Brad Carson

In support of its efforts to complete its initial study, to continue further analysis, and to use the results of the study to develop new energy businesses and high-paying career jobs in those businesses, NEPI has entered into a partnership with The University of Tulsa (”TU”).  NEPI is headquartered on the TU campus, and TU will collaborate with NEPI in bringing expertise to bear on the issues identified in the Resources for the Future study.

The relationship between NEPI and TU was enhanced in January with the appointment of business leader and former two-term U.S. Congressman Brad Carson as director of the National Energy Policy Institute at TU.  In addition, Carson will serve as an associate professor of entrepreneurship and business law in the Collins College of Business at TU.

“The University of Tulsa is very fortunate to find a leader whose credentials are well matched to this appointment and to a teaching role within our Collins College of Business,” said TU President Steadman Upham.  Ken Levit, Executive Director of the George Kaiser Family Foundation, added “Under Brad Carson’s leadership, and with the support of the university, I am confident that the National Energy Policy Institute at TU will play a vital role in promoting energy security for our country and also in securing a place for Tulsa at the forefront of innovation in the energy sector in the decades ahead.”

Tony Knowles, NEPI President, said “NEPI is excited to have Brad Carson as a Director.  As a proven elected national leader, with imposing academic credentials, business experience, and an Iraq veteran, Brad has the talent and energy to move NEPI forward in making Tulsa a new energy center.”  Brad Carson stated “I’m honored to have the opportunity to direct the work of NEPI at TU.   Energy is the most important issue facing our nation – indeed, our world – and NEPI is going to play a large role in shaping wise energy policies for generations to come.”

A key focus of the partnership will be to provide opportunities for involvement and education for TU students.
